Our Wildlife Pond!

Wildlife pond

Just one of the many ways we have worked to encourage and protect wildlife here at Cocklebury Farm is by building a new pond!

There were a couple already existing around the farm, but our newest addition has been an absolute haven for wildlife – especially with the unprecedented heat we’ve had recently.

Ponds provide a habitat, are a natural source of food and water, and are key in the natural migration process of many insects, invertebrates, amphibians and even small mammals and birds! You might even find small birds cooling off and bathing in the water, it’s nice and refreshing for them!

Despite only being a few months old, tons of exciting wildlife has already been spotted by the pond. Stunning brightly coloured Kingfishers, Great diving beetles, dragonflies and damselflies are just naming a few!

Our pond is also home to a range of vegetation. The algae is the base in almost all of the food chains in the pond and the water lilies and irises add a gorgeous pop of colour!

What a lovely achievement to create an additional pond for all to enjoy.

Thank you! Wildlife is our top priority here at Cocklebury Farm although it’s pretty nice for us to enjoy too!
