To mark this special celebration, we thought we would dedicate a post to our resident monarch – our Queen Bee! A colony of bees cannot survive without their queen, she lays all the eggs in the hive and produces pheromones (chemical scents) which send signals out to the rest of the colony to keep them working together!
We managed to spot her the other day whilst conducting a regular check on the hive. If you look closely at the video, you might also be able to see her! She is larger than the others, her abdomen sticks out further, and she is also slightly darker.
We appreciate all the Queen Bee does to help ensure our hive remains healthy and thriving!
