Lots of people have been asking about our avenue of trees this year – so we’ve decided to share a quick blog post with some more tree info! 🌳
The avenue at Cocklebury was planted by our family more than 20 years ago – during a very hot summer! They were watered by hand every day with a bowser (a water tank) towed behind the tractor. It was true labour of love lasting over two summers but we think it has paid off! ☀️
The trees are European Limes, they put out flowers and are great for bees and insects. We get a lot of birds and bats swooping around them at sundown. 🐦🦇
Lime leaves are valuable for our wildlife as they are eaten by the caterpillars of many different moth species – something you can clearly tell by all the teeny bite marks! 🐛
When the trees grow out in Summer our cows also like to have a munch, and of course we all welcome the amazing shade they provide in these scorching summer months! 🐮
