Last month we were delighted to announce that our Kestrel chicks had hatched, and today we are very excited to share that those chicks are now fledging!
These young ones have started exploring away from their nest, and will gradually venture further and further out over the coming weeks. They will still continue to roost and be fed by Mum and Dad until they can hunt for themselves.
Just as they had snuggled up together as newly hatched chicks, Kestrels will continue not to display any aggression towards their siblings for quite some time after fledging. They will still fly, perch, and roost together, just like in the image to the left!

Kestrels can see in ultraviolet (UV) light, which helps them detect vole urine and faeces, which reflects UV! This helps the clever bird of prey quickly survey which areas have a more abundant vole population – ensuring for more successful hunting!
